Our Story
LINK
Founded by Ssitenda Rashid,
Mbazira Joseph, Nanyonga Betty and Pastor Weere Jackson, Cymon
Childcare Ministry was born through God's Power Church International
Ministry, a thriving, community-focused church planted in Kibuku
District in Eastern Uganda in 2014.
The Cymon Story.
Back
in 2003, in a town called Kibuku in Eastern Uganda, where one of the
founders was born and raised, Ssitenda Rashid was faced with a harsh
reality that he could not ignore. As a young child growing up in
Kibuku, he and his siblings grew up in an area best known for its
violence and poverty. The harsh reality was that over 70% of school
children were at risk of dropping out of school. Combined with a high
mortality rate, the situation was dire indeed.
The people
of Kibuku have endured so much. Corrupt and oppressive rulers have
waged merciless wars against the people, and by the time they were
done slaughtering them, nearly a hundred thousand had died.
The
war in eastern Uganda in the late eighties and mid-nineties left a
trail of death, poverty, disease and suffering. It was not just the
war that was ravaging, the scourge of AIDS was seriously exacerbating
the problem. Rashid vividly remembers an incident when his family
visited an 80-year-old widow who had been the mother of seven
children. As they walked through the banana groves behind her small
hut, she pointed to the graves of her husband and six of her
children. AIDS had killed them all. Her only surviving child, a
daughter, was dying of the same disease. The visit to this woman
touched Ssitenda to the core of his being and became one of the
defining moments of his life.
He was reminded of James
1:27: "The form of worship that God our Father accepts as pure
and undefiled is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their
distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world."
Cymon
Childcare Ministry was born out of the power of God, the
international ministry of the church, as a result of this
meeting.

Children
Rashid is the passionate and visionary leader of Cymon
Childcare Ministry. After 2016, he became part of the Danish
organization with the main responsible leader Jan Lund Nissen, where
we work to get more sponsors and support for Children in Kibuku.
Rashid is the middleman to pass on sponsors' cash to sponsored
children, and is looking for trusted contacts in Kibuku who pass on
sponsorships, so that everything goes directly to the children
without administration costs. Everything is done voluntarily, no
salary costs.
Our Work
The Cymon Model is designed to
provide holistic care to vulnerable women and children in Africa and
to impact communities in the process. The model involves physical
care, medical intervention including HIV/AIDS treatment, education -
formal and vocational, counseling and emotional well-being, and moral
and spiritual discipleship.
Cymon Childcare Ministry is an
all-inclusive, non-partisan organization registered as a CBO
(Community Based Organization) that helps secure the livelihoods of
people in Kibuku District and other parts of Uganda. Cymon is very
passionate about children.
Kibuku District is
characterized by a very dry area, and although the majority of the
population of Uganda (over 60%) depends on agriculture, the climate
in Kibuku District is not conducive. There are many families who are
orphans and some have insufficient means to promote proper education
in the area, which has led to the formation of the Cymon Model, which
is designed to provide holistic care to vulnerable children in Africa
while impacting communities. The model involves physical care,
medical intervention including HIV/AIDS treatment, education - formal
and vocational, counselling and emotional well-being as well as moral
and spiritual discipleship by Cymon Childcare Ministries (CCM).
The
main objective of Cymon is to promote education among underprivileged
homes, especially orphans, with a view to paying school fees for
first primary education and then secondary education and in the
future establishing a technical institution to equip youth in the
area with more practical skills that can make the underprivileged in
the area self-reliant.
Cymon Childcare Ministry has a
technical team that has proposed a three-pronged approach of primary
education, secondary education and higher education to be tackled at
once to reduce dependency on youth in the area. Currently, Cymon is
working with schools and institutions in Kibuku district to bring
hope to marginalized communities in the district. Success has already
been recorded in many children who previously would not have had any
chance of education and who have been given this opportunity.
However, this approach has been met with the major challenge of
availability of financial resources. While land could be acquired to
establish an institution or school, the money to educate, rent and
buythe necessary equipment still elusive.
Both Cymon and
the African experience are most effectively demonstrated when
immersed in them. Since Cymon first started, numerous individuals and
organizations in Uganda and around the world have visited Kibuku
District to provide financial, academic and other assistance to
vulnerable children.
